We went to a Riot, and a wedding broke out…

Thursday afternoon we packed up the Spartan, gassed up the ’51 wagon and the Fordillac, and made the 2.25 mile trek to the Gilmore Museum for the “Relix Riot”.    What a great way to end up the summer camping/car show season!   We had  a VERY relaxing weekend, I didn’t even feel tempted to get the new Lokar shifter installed in the Diamond T, which was setting on the doorstep on Friday afternoon.  Wow.  We camped, did the car show, crashed a wedding, danced to some great Rock-a-billy music, saw a bunch of old and new friends.  A really great weekend.

Saturday, a couple from the ‘Relix’ club were married at the museum, and happily for them, the weather was (slightly) improved from Fridays cold and high winds.  We had a great vantage point from the museum grounds, and  hopefully stayed out of the wedding pics.  After that, we went to Ron’s (our niece Megan’s fiancée) parents home for a welcome home/engagement party for them, and after that back to the museum where the after party/kick-off party for the show took place.   Sadly, Meghan and Ron are marrying in December, otherwise I’d love to have our cars part of their wedding…

One of the nice things about camping at the museum grounds, aside from the fact that it’s close, quiet, cheap, and relaxing, is that after hours, I can stage photos in places that I might not get away with otherwise (apologies to museum staff and management inserted here…).   A beautiful sunset Friday evening got me busy taking these shots.  I know I shouldn’t photograph  a car on grass, but I like the location, I like the car, and I don’t think the green car gets lost on the green grass.

The show was today, and we both had a great time.  Kim was happy hanging out around the Spartan giving tours, and I had a great time just talking to people and checking out the cars.  This show has an energy that is a welcome change from what we’ve become accustomed to at car shows and rod runs over the years.  Refreshing and fun, and while I don’t think I’m going to run out and get tattooed, I do like the cars, the bikes, and the people.  It’s a  great event.    Here are a few photos of some of the cars, some of the people, and some of the reasons why this show should be on every car guy in the  midwest list of “must do” events.  Or,  maybe it should be a well-kept secret, so the 300 or so people who show up can enjoy this without it getting so big it loses it’s charm.

At any rate, a HUGE thanks to “Relix CC/MC” for putting on this show, maybe the best kept secret in the country!DSC01302 (Medium)
