IT’S FINALLY PAINTED!!!

Posted: August 26, 2011 in Diamond T truck

I know, there’s a TON of work yet to do, but the Diamond T, every piece of it, is finally painted.   It’s been a long time coming, but it finally looks like I’d envisoned it when it came here from Santa Fe 4 years ago.  Hard to believe it’s been that long.  Even apart, now that it’s in color, it looks like something great.

Now, I can finally start to assemble it for the last time.  In a couple of weeks, I should be able to have the box on, fenders mounted, grill shell and hood on.  The wiring still has to be finished up, brake lines run and bled, and I do still have to grind, blast and paint the bumper brackets and trailer hitch.  There’s also going to be some touch up work on the frame, but that can be done pretty much any time.

Here’s some pics of the days work, starting with getting the olive green belt-line strip painted, box frame done, base coat, then clear.  Whew, a long, hard days work!

I decided to paint both front fenders over, the right one had fish-eye in it, caused by a contaminated paint gun, and the left had some sand scratches in it caused by using a sanding block that had a little crown to it, the edges digging in the primer.  So, they both got sanded again with 600, and I shot another coat of color, than three coats of clear.  They look MUCH better.

The entire truck looks great, the two colors look good together.  The green is the same color as the ’36, which I though would look good with the cars parked next to each other.

My buddy Tom Mackey called me and has another pair of Dodge truck wheels for me, so when I save up enough sheckels after buying all this red paint, I’ll get them and get all the right wheels and tires on it, and start putting it together.

That’s all for now, off to Gun Lake for a boat ride and some well deserved R&R!

The red looks great! I have never understood why they did the green/red combo at Diamond T. When I see green and red together, all I can think of is Christmas, LOL. Are you going to do a pinstripe too? I believe ours had a white pinstripe to separate the green from the red originally….

It does look sort of “festive”, doesn’t it? I’m thinking a single cream color stripe at the top and bottom of the green is what it should have.
