Now you see them, now you don’t…

Bumper bolts, that is.  I decided today that a custom should not have the heads of bumper bolts showing, so I spent most of the afternoon shaving the front bumper.  Straightened out a little tweak in the right side bottom rail, which deformed the grill opening enough to look a little off, and kept the grill form-fitting easily.  A couple of hours with the Port-O-Power got that much closer, and I was so inspired I straightened out a couple of slightly tweaked grill bars.  It looks OK, so I think it’s good to go, albeit with a little more work.

The front bumper looks so good, I’ll have to give the rear a closer shave as well, it’s got WAY too many holes in it.That’s a project for another day.  I thought I’d get some filler on the bumper today, but didn’t get too it.  Lot’s of winter left for fabrication…

Now you see it...

Now you see it…

Now you don't...

Now you don’t…

A little more dental work in order for the grill...

Now I have to fill all the holes in this!

I have been enjoying your blog posts for some time now. The square bird is going to be some bad ass when finished. The blue oval in the way straight tube grille is a nice touch. I am building a rat rod house-car from a 78 Ford 351/C-6 motor home base. Working from the deck up, keeping the shower/toilet module and the kitchen stove/sink module. Lots of work as you know, but the reward should be substantial! I am toying with the idea of new vintage crimped polished aluminum sides…thanks for the great posts on the square bird and many others!

I have to agree, you’ve done a great job on the Thunderbird. What the end goal? Shows? I going to follow so I can see the end product.

Thanks guys! The plan is to drive the car, my new deadline goal is to have it done for Autorama in Detriot 2015. I’m having a great time with the build, if I could only stop seeing things I’d like to do, and things I need to do better, it’ll be done!

Isn’t that the truth!!! I’ve restored 5 cars on my own, never a custom like you are creating here, but where to draw the line on all the additional things that could be done, is tough!!!

I’m glad she’s going to be a driver!!!!
